Hazing Prevention
At NMT, students are encouraged to join clubs and sports clubs as a way to meet fellow Techies, explore their interests, and learn new skills. When joining an NMT club, students should be welcomed warmly, embraced for who they are, and respected with dignity. No Techie should be demeaned or harmed while trying to find their place with the NMT community.
As an unproductive and hazardous activity, hazing does not align with the mission and values of NMT. Hazing has no place at this university, on or off campus, and is prohibited by the Student Code of Conduct (Guide to Conduct & Citizenship for Students) and the Interim Hazing Discipline and Prevention Policy (To Be Published). Additionally, the federal Stop Campus Hazing Act requires certain training and reporting of hazing.
Reports of hazing can be made to the university using our Hazing Reporting Form. All reports are thoroughly investigated by the Dean of Students through the Student Code of Conduct or the Office of Human Resources, as applicable.
At NMT, Techies look out for the safety and well-being of one another by recognizing, intervening in, and reporting incidents of hazing. Changing the culture around hazing is a community wide effort, one that includes students, faculty, staff, alumni, and families. Together, we can work to prevent hazing at NMT.
