Champions – Lunar Robotics

The NMT Lunabotics team won first place overall and first place in three other categories at the 2025 Collegiate Space Mining Competition, an event that challenges university teams to design and build autonomous robots capable of mining lunar soil. The prototype wheel displayed here was engineered to excavate and transport lunar regolith as part of the team’s rover system, created for NASA’s Lunabotics Challenge. Students in the Mechanical Engineering department often select Lunabotics as their Junior/Senior Design Clinic project, gaining experience in mechanical design, systems integration, and real-world problem-solving for future space missions.
