Cutting-Edge Research – Dandelion Drones
This bio-inspired drone was used by a Mechanical Engineering graduate student as part of their master’s thesis. Modeled after the natural flight mechanics of a dandelion seed, it was studied for potential applications in environmental monitoring and planetary exploration.
Its lightweight, energy-efficient structure enables passive flight, making it suitable for dispersing sensors in areas that are hazardous or difficult to access. Projects like this demonstrate how NMT students explore emerging technologies in aerospace, robotics, and environmental systems.
