President's Welcome Message

Welcome to New Mexico Tech, a leader in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)
since our founding in 1889.

From day one, we have been at the forefront of STEM education, research, innovation, and
entrepreneurship. We offer degrees and certificates from associate to doctoral levels and house
numerous pioneering research centers.

New Mexico Tech collaborates and offers expertise to industry partners, national labs, government
agencies, the White House, and academic institutions. Our research spans hydrology and astrophysics,
petroleum recovery and explosives engineering, atmospheric physics and materials engineering,
cybersecurity and management, and more.

As a learn-by-doing campus, we equip our classrooms with state-of-the-art technology, enabling faculty,
staff, and students to conduct real-world, collaborative research that addresses industry needs and
pioneers new advancements. Our dedicated NMT students regularly participate in rigorous experiential
learning, challenging fieldwork, and demanding internships with top firms. Our innovative students also
excel at prestigious national competitions, such as Mini Baja and NASA Lunabotics.

New Mexico Tech houses a myriad of research divisions working on seminal projects that expand the
reach of science and technology. Our renowned facilities include the Energetic Materials Research
Testing Center, Petroleum Research and Recovery Center, Magdalena Ridge Observatory, Langmuir
Laboratory for Atmospheric Research, and the National Cave and Karst Research Institute.

Our faculty are giants in their fields, contributing significantly to areas such as atmospheric electricity,
atmospheric physics, and groundwater hydrology. Current faculty also make impactful contributions in
bioinspiration in aerospace and drone technologies, mammalian DNA repair, and cybersecurity, among
others. Our research portfolio exceeds $300M, with annual research awards approaching $50M. NMT
boasts more than 60 patents and patents pending worldwide, including innovations like the nicotine
patch.

We serve New Mexico and beyond through STEM education, research, and service, delivering a positive
economic impact: $276M added yearly to the state economy from alumni spending, research,
operations, and more. Every dollar spent on NMT yields $4.50 in lifetime earnings for students, $2.70 in
income and savings for society, and $1.20 in revenue and savings for taxpayers.

NMT alumni secure influential positions with major employers such as Abbott Laboratories, Apple,
Chevron, Intel, Lockheed Martin, NASA, Raytheon, Sandia National Laboratories, and many more. Our
powerful alumni network exceeds 11,000 members.

NMT takes pride in extensive community outreach, hosting popular events like a robotics demolition
derby for 6 th -12 th graders and a weeklong summer STEM program for high schoolers.

These are just a few reasons why we rank high as a top public college in the West (U.S. News & World Report) and as one the best Hispanic-serving universities in America (Niche.com). Our values—excellence in teaching, scholarship, integrity, student success, community engagement,
entrepreneurism, innovation, and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusivity—distinguish us.

NMT is a STEM oasis in the majestic mountainous desert. For 135 years and counting, we’ve thrived as
self-proclaimed STEM enthusiasts. I eagerly anticipate the future of NMT and STEM.
