New Mexico Tech awards academic scholarships, or merit-based aid, solely on the basis of academic achievement. Over 40 percent of New Mexico Tech undergraduates receive merit-based aid. Although family financial evaluations have no effect on academic scholarship decisions at Tech, many scholarship recipients also qualify for need-based financial aid.

To be considered eligible for incoming student scholarships, entering students must file the Application for Undergraduate Admission and Scholarships and be accepted before March 1. The deadline for scholarships for entering freshmen is March 1, and for incoming transfer students April 1.

Generally, for scholarship consideration, students must:

Eligible students are offered one merit scholarship upon entering New Mexico Tech. All merit scholarships for incoming students require the student to be enrolled full time (12 hours or more per semester).  Students must be pursuing their first Bachelor's Degree in order to be eligible, and must transfer from a U.S. college or university.

Scholarship Conditions and Requirements

Scholarship awards are for the academic year only and may not be used for the summer session. Credit hours completed during the summer session may count as completed credit hours for the purposes of scholarship retention with prior approval from the financial aid office.

The time period a scholarship is in effect is fixed. If the scholarship is cancelled due to academic ineligibility, the originally specified time period is not extended. Students who reestablish eligibility may request consideration for renewal of the scholarship. A written request must be submitted to the Office of Financial Aid prior to the start of the fall semester for scholarship consideration for the following academic year.

Restrictions

New Mexico Tech awards no more than one scholarship to each student. If you inadvertently receive the offer of a second scholarship funded by New Mexico Tech, you may accept only one. Submit a written statement to the Office of Financial Aid indicating which scholarship you wish to receive.

(Exception: The New Mexico Legislative Lottery Scholarship is stacked on top of any other scholarship you are awarded by the university and non-residents who qualify for a tuition reduction scholarship (Competitive,  WUE or Tuition Reduction Agreement) will also qualify for a merit scholarship. Students who qualify for the CORE tuition reduction scholarship may also qualify for a merit scholarship).

Scholarships for Incoming Freshmen

Due to the unavailability of ACT and SAT testing during the pandemic, NMT will award scholarships for the incoming Fall 2021 class strictly based on GPA. This is with the exception of the Presidential Scholarship which will still require proof of National Merit Finalist standing. We encourage students to apply early for scholarship consideration as funding may be limited.

Current Students

New Mexico Tech, through the gracious donations of our scholarship donors, is able to offer NMT students endowed scholarships; these scholarships are in addition to NMT merit scholarships.  Each endowed scholarship has its own criteria and deadline.  If the scholarship has specific criteria, and it appears that the student meets the criteria, they will receive an invitation to apply via campus e-mail.  Endowed scholarships that are administered through the Financial Aid Office are posted on this page, and flyers are posted around campus when applications are open. All applications will close at 5:00 p.m. on their closing date.

Important:  All postings are subject to change.

NMT Endowed Scholarships

Currently available scholarships will have an active application tab and a future deadline date. (updated 7/30/2021)

Outside Scholarships

Many organizations offer scholarships for incoming or continuing college students.  When applying for outside scholarships, please keep in mind that each organization has its own criteria, and deadline. This page is updated as we receive new scholarship information, so please bookmark this site and check back regularly.  Scholarships from outside organizations can be utilized in addition to NMT merit scholarships, and in conjunction with federal student aid.

If a student receives a scholarship award letter from an organization, they should send a copy to the Financial Aid Office so that it can be added to the student's award.

Non-Resident Scholarships

These programs are available for both first-time students and transfer students.

Additional Information: All first-time scholarships require the student to be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and be enrolled full time (12 hours or more per semester) - Transfer students must be transferring from a U.S. college or University. There are a limited number of awards available under each of these programs. Note: You may be eligible for one of these awards, but not be offered one if all available awards have been made for the year.

New Mexico Tech awards no more than one tuition reduction scholarship and one merit scholarship to each non-resident student. If you inadvertently receive more offers of scholarships funded by New Mexico Tech, you may accept only one tuition reduction scholarship and one merit scholarship.
