Announcements - Pool Updates
Dear Tech, Socorro, and Swim Center Community,
We are excited about the new partnership between the City of Socorro and New Mexico Tech to facilitate operations at the Socorro Regional Aquatic Center. Ahead of our upcoming reopening, we wanted to provide the community with an update on the work completed thus far, along with important operational information for the summer.
To date, the City of Socorro has taken the lead on repairing pool lights, replacing tile, and repairing the expansion joints in the pool. New Mexico Tech has installed anchor points for 20-meter swim use. Additionally, we certified five new lifeguards this week, bringing our active staff to 10 guards. Our goal is to reach at least 12 guards to ensure safe and adequate service throughout the summer.
Our team anticipates filling the pool and balancing chemicals beginning Friday and continuing through the weekend. This will allow us enough time to bring the pool up to temperature and be prepared for final inspection in anticipation of an official reopening event on Monday, June 8 (June 8 will follow the Summer Hours schedule below). Below are several important highlights as we transition to reopening.
