logoBanweb Registration Errors Explained

Prerequisite and Test Score Error: You do not have one or more of the prerequisites for a class. Note: classes you are currently enrolled in fulfill pre-registration requirements. A Prerequisite Waiver Form will have to be signed by the course instructor AND your advisor.

Coreq Required: You must register for both the class and any co-requisite class(es) or lab(s). For example, CHEM 1215L is a co-requisite for CHEM 1215, that is, you cannot register for CHEM 1215 without simultaneously registering for CHEM 1215L.

Closed Section: The class is at maximum capacity waitlist.

Time Conflict: Two of your classes have overlapping times or start/end at the same time, that is, if one class ends at 1300 and your next class starts at 1300, this would be a time conflict. The error message will state which CRN the rejected class conflicts with. The Registrar’s Office will override this error with no further paperwork. It is up to you to make arrangements with your instructor.

Class Restriction: You must have completed a certain number of credit hours before you can register for the class (e.g., some courses require that you have junior or senior standing). Class restrictions are listed in the Course Catalog under course prerequisites. A Prerequisite Waiver Form will have to be signed by the course instructor AND your advisor.

Instructor Approval Req’d: Some classes require the permission of the instructor. If it’s a regular class, you need the Instructor Permission Form to be signed by the professor. If it’s a directed studies course, that form (Directed Study Form) needs to be signed by the instructor, your advisor, the chair of your department, and the chair of the department the class is to be offered through.

CRN does not exist: Check that you entered the correct CRN and that you are registering in the correct semester. CRNs for summer classes begin with 1xxxx, fall classes 2xxxx, and spring classes 3xxxx.

Campus Restriction: Only distance education students may register for the class. Distance Education requires approval for enrollment.

Level Restriction: With very few exceptions, only graduate or dual-enrolled students can register for courses numbered 500, 581, 590, 591, and 595. Directed studies for undergraduates are usually numbered 491.

Dupl Crse: You may not sign up for more than one section of an academic class.

Must Register in Person: Online registration for the course is not permitted; you must use the Registration Form before you will be enrolled.

All signed forms must be submitted to the Registrar’s Office, Fidel 2nd floor.
