Dr. Wei's work covers the application of a wall-bounded turbulence model for turbulent convection. Raleigh-Benard Convection
is a fndamamental mode of convection between two plates, one with a higher temperature
than the other. Between these two plates, fluid buoyency increases with temperature
from the lower plate, and rises to the upper plate. This upper plat is cooler and
thus fluid near it cools and falls. Understanding Raleigh-Benard Convection is a difficult
task, but Dr. Wei in collaboration with Dr. Ronald du Puits (a researcher from germany)
made a great leap in finding distinctive similarities between turbulent RBC and shear-driven
wall-bounded turbulence. This meaning that the tools used to modelshear-driven turbulent
flow can be extended for use with RBC turbulence.
