The Core Team has met with local medical providers, the Department of Health, NMT Administration and students to address community readiness to accept prevention efforts and collaborate to overcome roadblocks. This group is focused on bringing members to the coalition, building a network and bringing together a congruent message regarding alcohol and prescription painkillers to the NMT campus.

Core Team Goals

• Increase the capacity of the coalition to address the prevention of underage drinking and prescription painkiller misuse among youth and young adults at NMT and the Socorro Community.  
• Strengthen the coalition structure and membership through outreach, activity committees and orientation packet. 
• Increase the readiness of New Mexico Tech and Socorro to address the prevention of underage drinking and prescription painkiller misuse among youth and young adults in the community. 
• Identify and resolve obstacles to substance abuse prevention and increase support for substance abuse prevention efforts by collaborating with other agencies, leveraging resources, and sharing successes and outcomes.
