Dr. Todd Wolford, Associate Teaching Professor in the Department of Mathematics, has been named the recipient of New Mexico Tech’s 2026 Distinguished Teaching Award in recognition of his exceptional dedication to student learning and success. Selected through nominations from students, alumni, and faculty, Dr. Wolford is widely admired for his enthusiasm for mathematics, patient teaching style, and ability to make even the most challenging concepts accessible. 

Students consistently praise his clear explanations, approachable demeanor, and genuine commitment to helping every student succeed, describing him as one of the most effective and supportive instructors they have encountered. 

A proud New Mexico Tech alumnus, Dr. Wolford earned his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics in 1999 and his Master of Science in Mathematics in 2003 before completing his Ph.D. in Industrial and Applied Mathematics at New Mexico Tech in 2012. After serving on the faculty at Northern Arizona University, he returned to New Mexico Tech in 2018, where he teaches the calculus sequence, linear algebra, differential equations, and other mathematics courses. He was promoted to Associate Teaching Professor in 2025. 

Beyond the classroom, Dr. Wolford continuously improves his courses through student feedback and innovative instructional practices that engage learners of diverse backgrounds and preparation levels. He also contributes extensively to the department and institution through academic advising, curriculum development, review sessions,and service on numerous committees dedicated to student success and academic excellence. 

Caitano da Silva, associate professor of physics who received the award last year, presented the award to Dr. Wolford at the recent Convocation Ceremony and noted that the award marked the second time Dr. Wolford has received the Distinguished Teaching Award. “Please join me in congratulating Dr. Todd Wolford, or as the students know and call him, Todd the God,” he said to audience laughter.
