Sept. 8, 2025

SOCORRO, NM (Sept. 8, 2025)– While New Mexico Tech continues to strengthen new student enrollment, the university is celebrating a historic achievement in student success: an 84.9% first-to-second year retention rate, the highest in Tech’s history and one of the highest among public institutions in New Mexico.
This milestone reflects NMT’s strategic focus on student success. In recent years, the university has added initiatives such as Supplemental Instruction, created parachute courses, developed a week-long Student Leadership Camp, and a range of belonging and engagement programs that connect students with faculty, staff, and peers, ensuring they know how to access resources across campus.
“These initiatives demonstrate Tech’s commitment to not only recruiting exceptional students, but also retaining them and supporting their long-term success,” said David Greene, Vice President of Student Affairs. “We are proud of this historic retention rate, the efforts of our faculty and staff, and the opportunities it represents for our students and community.”
This record retention rate highlights NMT’s commitment to helping students thrive from their first year through graduation. By pairing rigorous academics with strong support and community, Tech is ensuring every student has the opportunity to succeed.
