SOCORRO, N.M. – Singing and dancing to the hits of Motown and popular music stars of the past few decades, the Masters of Soul will perform on New Mexico Tech’s Macey Center stage Thursday, Feb. 15. The performance, which begins at 7:30 p.m., will be preceded by a special Valentines-themed dinner from 6 to 7:15 p.m., featuring chicken cordon bleu, a cash bar with cocktails and mocktails, a photo booth and other special surprises, a great way to celebrate the holiday!

The Masters of Soul show’s tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors age 65 and older, $8 for youth under age 17 and free for NMT students. Tickets are available online at nmt.edu/pas. The cost for the pre-show dinner is $25 for the general public and $15 for NMT students and can be purchased separately at nmt.edu/pas.  A full schedule of NMT Performing Arts Series (PAS) events and ticket information is available online at: nmt.edu/pas.

Attendees will be treated to the Masters of Soul’s renditions of the hits of legendary performers such as The Temptations, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, Smokey Robinson and The Miracles, The Four Tops, Diana Ross and The Supremes, The Jackson Five, Martha Reeves and The Vandellas, Stevie Wonder, The Commodores, and many more.

The performance will feature both stylish costumes and fully choreographed tributes to both male and female Motown musical groups backed by a live band.

NMT PAS Director Dana Chavez said that the group’s music will entertain all ages.

“It will be a stroll down memory lane for many who recognize major hits of the 1960s and ‘70s,” she said. “Our younger audience will get a special treat, as many danced to this music during our Fall NDI-NM residency with Socorro Schools. It promises to be an extraordinary evening.”

Sponsors of the Feb. 15 Masters of Soul performance are: the City of Socorro, New Mexico Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Betty Clark Memorial Endowment, Comfort Inn, New Mexico Tech Student Government Association (SGA), KUNM, Associated Universities Inc. (AUI)/National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) and the NM Economic Development Creative Industries Grant.
