SANTA FE, N.M. (Feb. 6, 2024)—New Mexico Tech was showcased at the Roundhouse in Santa Fe on Monday, Feb. 5. That is also Earth Science Day—the Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources and other state and federal agencies on natural resources shared the rotunda with Tech.

Several of New Mexico Tech’s research divisions and academic departments hosted information tables during the day, highlighting the opportunities for research, engineering and science advancement that benefits citizens. Students visiting the capitol, legislators and staffers and the media asked questions and learned about the impact and benefits that New Mexico Tech provides for the state.

In fact, a recent economic impact study showed that for every tax dollar that goes to NM Tech, the benefit to New Mexico’s citizens is nearly threefold. (See published study.)

During the session, Sen. Pete Wirth was honored by the Bureau with the Earth Science Achievement Award, for his lifetime achievement in earth and environmental policy and legislation. A plaque was presented to him in front of a crowd of nearly 100 people, including past recipients of this honor. (See related story here.)
