SOCORRO, N.M. – Dynamic and passionate, six saxophonists are bringing their wide-ranging repertoire to New Mexico Tech’s Macey Center Stage for a free concert Thursday, March 7, 2024. The Moanin’ Frogs sextet will perform at 7:30 p.m. as the final concert in a series of four free concerts sponsored by the 2023-2024 Presidential Chamber Music Series and the New Mexico Tech Performing Arts Series (NMT PAS).
The performance is free and open to the public and no reservations or tickets are required to attend. Tips are accepted via an online tip jar.
Featuring six saxophones from soprano to bass, The Moanin’ Frogs are unique on today’s chamber music landscape. Comfortable in a wide array of venues, The Moanin’ Frogs deliver artist-level performances to small towns and major performance halls alike, performing for concert series, as concerto soloists, and for educational programs throughout the United States and abroad.
The six saxophonists – Edward Goodman, Gabriel Piqué, Jeff Siegfried, Jonathan Hulting-Cohen, Jeffrey Leung and Lucas Hopkins – are conservatory trained and several teach at universities and music schools in the United States and Canada.
The Moanin’ Frogs offer a program of classical, ragtime, jazz, and pop hits, from “Johnny B. Goode” to “In the Mood” to “Yakety Sax” and “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
NMT PAS Director Dana Chavez said she’s excited for The Moanin’ Frogs’ performance, which takes the place of the previously announced Alias Brass Quintet in the Presidential Chamber Music Series.
“We are so fortunate to host The Moanin’ Frogs in Socorro,” she said. “Music lovers of all ages will enjoy their energetic performance. I encourage students, faculty, community members and especially families with children to attend this free concert and take advantage of the opportunity to listen to a top-notch group of skilled musicians perform.”
Flash announcement! There will be a special opening performance by Socorro’s own sax quartet, the Sax Kittens, featuring Jim Ruff, Tom and Elissa Hunt, and Sandy Kieft.

The Moanin’ Frogs performance in Socorro is underwritten by the NMT Presidential Chamber Music Series, which sponsors several free concerts each season for NMT students and community members. The series began more than 30 years ago and was conceived by Adam Gonzalez, a faculty member in the New Mexico Tech Music Program under Director Michael Iatauro. The tradition continues with sponsorship by NMT Interim President Dr. Daniel H. López, with additional support from the Michael Fazzone & Susan Miller Memorial.
