Middle School Expo brings students to campus
Feb. 16, 2024

SOCORRO, NM (Feb. 16, 2024)—One of Tech’s most popular programs is the Mechanical Engineering Robotics Outreach, under the tutelage of Prof. Curtis O’Malley. Last week, groups of middle schoolers from Socorro and Cuba, NM, came to campus for a field trip focused on STEM.
A team of engineering majors and robotics enthusiasts demonstrate machines and principles of engineering to middle and high schools all around the state. The program engages thousands of students every year at demonstrations and workshops, either on site at New Mexico Tech or by traveling around the state.
Most recently, 100 students and 15 chaperones from four schools came to Socorro, home of Tech’s campus, for the Middle School Expo. The participants rotated around four stations: the New Mexico Bureau of Geology Mineral Museum, the biology department, the robotic compat program and the Baja vehicle squad from SAE.
The groups attending were from Cottonwood Valley Charter and Sarracino Middle schools,
both
in Socorro, and Cuba (NM) Middle School in northern New Mexico.
