SOCORRO, N.M. – If you’ve ever wanted to dabble in painting, an upcoming workshop provides an opportunity for participants to have fun while learning more about incorporating color, shape and depth into their creations.

A special night of “Canvas and Cocktails,” sponsored by the New Mexico Tech Performing Arts Series (PAS), is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 26, at 6 p.m. at Macey Center.

What makes this night so special? The theme for the night’s painting, “Lovely New Mexico,” was chosen by ticket buyers. “I had multiple themes in mind and decided to poll folks who would be attending, this was the most popular choice,” beams PAS Director and instructor for the night Dana Chavez.

The evening will feature fun appetizers and drink specials (both mocktails and cocktails, wine and beer).

There is a cost for the general public and NMT students. Tickets are available online at nmt.edu/pas and are expected to be snapped up quickly as seats are limited.

More information about PAS special events and performances can be found online at nmt.edu/pas.

Chavez leads the evening painting session, which welcomes new and experienced painters, NMT students, faculty and staff, community members, couples out on date nights, groups of friends looking for an activity to enjoy together, and anyone interested in learning more about how to get started with a brush and canvas.

“It is always a fun night, whether you're out with friends, on a date, or flying solo,” Chavez said. “I like to make it easy for participants to come up with a lovely painting. Nobody's painting looks like anyone else's.”

In addition to appetizers, all painting supplies – paints, brushes, canvas – are included.

The Macey Cash Bar will be serving cocktails and mocktails to help get those creative juices flowing.

The combination of art, conversation and learning, food, fun and drink make “Canvas and Cocktails” a memorable evening, Chavez said.

“Another lovely thing about all our special events is the mix of people who participate – from college age to seniors – all over the demographic map,” she said. “PAS happenings are a beautiful collage of Tech, town and beyond.”
