New Mexico Tech Hosts “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”
Sept. 16, 2022

SOCORRO, N.M. – One of Shakespeare’s most popular comedies, featuring mistaken identities, fairies and other forest creatures, and love under a moonlit sky is coming to Socorro. New Mexico Tech’s Macey Center will be the venue for Socorro Community Theater’s production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” with evening performances on Sept. 23, 24, and a matinee on Sept. 25.
The plot features the pitfalls and follies of four young Athenians as they attempt to navigate love amidst the meddling of politics, their families, and even the mysterious fairies of the forest. Meanwhile, a group of laborers puts on a play for the nuptial festivities, and it is a farcical disaster, yet great fun is had by all.

The Friday evening show kicks off with an optional Medieval Feast and Fancy event prior to the play, with open-air night-club-style seating, a hearty medieval meal, drink specials, and costumes encouraged.
On Saturday, Sept. 24, a mini-Renaissance Fair is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. with music, activities including face painting, demos and workshops, food trucks, and more followed by the play.
The Sunday matinee performance at 2 p.m. features an Enchanted Brunch from 12:30 to 2 p.m., with open-air night-club-style seating, a whimsical woodland menu, and mimosas and Bloody Mary cocktail and mocktail drink specials.

A silent art auction sponsored by Socorro’s American Association of University Women (AAUW) chapter will be available all weekend.
Socorro Community Theater made its debut with “Macbeth” in the spring of 1994. Productions in the early years focused on the works of Shakespeare including “Othello,” “Hamlet,” and “Much Ado About Nothing." SCT has performed in a number of venues in Socorro, such as the Holiday Inn Express, Macey Center, and the Garcia Opera House.
