El Defensor Chieftain Editor Scott Turner sat down with New Mexico Tech President Stephen Wells and asked him about the upcoming academic year. This is a part of a question and answer series with government officials and community leaders in the Socorro area.
Question: How are preparations going for the academic year?
Answer: They are going quite well. We have a new program called the “Move-In” program for incoming freshmen. Between Aug. 16th and 18th we have our freshmen moving in and the administration, the faculty and the staff volunteer their time and help parents and students move luggage in, serve ice cream to them and water to make them feel welcome. It’s a nice approach and an appropriate approach for a campus our size to do.
