Recently married and a lifelong member of the Socorro Community, Nowka Leviner, now Nowka Gutierrez is the Head Director of both the Macey and Fidel Center at New Mexico Tech. Responsible for overseeing a variety of events at the school, Nowka took time out of her busy Spring schedule to provide El Defensor Chieftain with more information.

Question: What are your main responsibilities here at Tech?

Answer: It certainly changes week to week. I run our conference spaces for things like political or social events. My biggest focus throughout the year is heading up our performing arts center. Performing Arts Series Director Ronna Kalish goes out and finds the money in order to recruit top level shows here to Socorro while my job is to make sure each show is properly staffed and the performers are given the appropriate things necessary to go on stage. It is the same thing with events such as weddings, sweet sixteen parties or graduations.
