AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF DRILLING ENGINEERS

STUDENT SECTION

BY-LAWS

 

SECTION I. NAME

ARTICLE 1.    The organization shall be known as the New Mexico Tech (NMT) Section of the American Association of Drilling Engineers (AADE).

 

SECTlON II. PURPOSE

ARTICLE 1.    The purpose shall be the dissemination of knowledge of the theory and practice of all aspects of drilling engineering and the furtherance of the professional development of the Student Member.

 

SECTION III. CONFORMITY

ARTlCLE 1.     The organization and operation of the section shall be in accordance with the bylaws of the American Association of Drilling Engineers.

ARTICLE 2.    The NMT Student Section shall be overseen, or governed in the majority, by the parent chapter or known as the AADE Permian Basin Chapter by-laws 

ARTICLE 2.    The failure to act in accord with AADE requirements may result in dissolving the Student Section.  In such an event all funds in the Student Section treasury shall be submitted to the Faculty Advisor to be turned over to the school treasury or returned to the sponsoring AADE Chapter if the funds were allocated by the Chapter.

ARTICLE 3.    If the sponsoring chapter Board of Directors deems it necessary to dissolve the student section, an affirmative vote of two thirds of the sponsoring chapter’s board is required.  Dissolution must be communicated to the student section by the sponsoring chapter board and the section will no longer be able to use the AADE name or logo.

 

SECTlON IV. MEMBERSHIP

ARTlCLE 1.     Membership shall be open to current Students of the School to which the agreement is issued.

ARTlCLE 2.     All members of the section shall be entitled to the same rights and privileges of the section, including the right to hold office.

SECTlON V. DUES

ARTICLE 1.    Section dues of $0.00 per member are payable at the beginning of each academic year.

ARTICLE 2.    Nonpayment of dues shall automatically result in suspension of membership in the section.

SECTION VI. OFFICERS

ARTICLE 1.    Only Student Members of AADE in good standing with a GPA of 2.5 or higher and are not under academic, disciplinary or club probation shall be eligible to serve as officers of the section.

ARTICLE 2.    As many officers as necessary may be elected, but it is suggested the following positions be filled:  President, Treasurer and Secretary.  At least two of the proposed officers should not be graduating within 12 months of submitting the application. 

ARTICLE 3.    The term of each officer should be one academic year.

ARTICLE 4.    Election of officers for the following year should be held no later than April 1st to encourage continuity in the section. 

ARTICLE 5.    If at any time during the term a board member resigns, the student section President will select a member to fill the vacancy for the remaining term. If the student section President resigns, the vice president will become the president and appoint another member as vice president.

ARTICLE 6.    Any officer may be removed with due cause by an agreement from the remaining elected officers and the faculty advisor.

 

ARTICLE 7.    The following process outlines the election process for board positions. All positions are open to AADE student members of the student section. 

·       An open call for nominations will be made to student section members.

·       The student section board will prepare and share with the student section membership a list of candidates for each office and the date and location of a vote.

·       On the published date of the vote, the board members will be selected by a majority vote of the student section members present.

 

SECTION VII. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

ARTICLE 1.    The management of the affairs of the section shall be in the hands of the section's executive committee, consisting of the duly elected officers of the section, the Faculty Advisor and the Student Section Liaison approved by the sponsoring AADE board.  The Student Section Liaison from the sponsoring AADE Chapter will be an Ad Hoc advisory member.

ARTlCLE 2.     The President of the section shall be the chairperson of the executive committee.

ARTlCLE 3.     The executive committee shall be the governing body of the section and shall transact all business it deems advisable including the filling of vacancies in offices, authorization of expenditures, etc.

 

SECTlON VIII. DUTIES OF OFFICERS

ARTICLE 1.    The President shall preside at all meetings of the section. He/she shall appoint all committees, subject to the approval of the executive committee, and shall assume all other executive duties not otherwise delegated.

ARTICLE 2.    The Vice President shall assume the duties of the President in his/her absence.  This is an optional position which the Section may choose to fill if it desires.

ARTICLE 3.    The Secretary shall keep a record of all activities of the section and shall report the same to AADE, together with any special reports required by AADE, within a reasonable time after each meeting. He/she shall carry on all communications necessary to the activities of the section.

ARTICLE 4.    The Treasurer shall receive all money and pay all debts of the section authorized by the faculty sponsor or section liaison, and he/she shall keep an exact account of all receipts and expenditures.

ARTICLE 5.    A complete annual report shall be submitted by the current President (not president-elect) at the last regular meeting of the year and shall be forwarded by the section secretary to the AADE Section Liaison.

 

SECTION IX. MEMBER CONDUCT

ARTICLE 1.    Student members are expected to uphold the standards of the profession and abide to all rules and regulations while on campus or at recognized club events.

ARTICLE 2.    All members are expected to follow all safety and proprietary regulations while on campus or during sanctioned club activities (e.g. field trips, conferences, etc.)

ARTICLE 3.    Members who violation Student Section rules, University policy, Parent Chapter regulations will be subject to appropriate sanctions.

ARTICLE 4.    A judicial committee comprised of at least two (2) executive members and the Section Faculty Advisor will convene, hear the case, render a decision, and administer appropriate sanction, if needed. This is the initial, informal process for resolution. The Executive members selected to sit on this committee should be unbiased and not associated with the case.  If needed a current unbiased member can be asked to fill one of the positions if needed

ARTICLE 5     If the student/s do not agree with the informal resolution, they can ask the NMT SGA to formally hear the case.

ARTICLE 6.    Appeal with just cause can be forwarded to the Dean of Students Office for consideration.

 

SECTION X. MEETINGS

ARTICLE 1.    The student section shall hold regular and special meetings at such places and times as designated by the faculty advisor, with a minimum of four meetings annually.

 

SECTION XI. AMENDMENTS

ARTICLE 1.    The bylaws may be amended by a two thirds vote of the members of the section present and voting provided the amendment shall have been proposed at least one duly publicized meeting previous to the time of voting.

ARTICLE 2.    Such amendments become effective only upon the approval of the AADE Sponsoring Chapter and National Board.
