Cricket Team Beats UNM Lobos by 9 Wickets

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. November 12, 2015 – Fresh off two wins, New Mexico Tech's cricket team traveled to the University of New Mexico's Johnson Field November 7 for their second consecutive weekend of action against the Lobos.

Winning the toss and fielding first, Tech's opening bowler Sai Krishna got a wicket in the very first over of the game. Bowling from the other end, Sherin bagged two wickets in consecutive balls in his second over. Though he missed a hat trick, he gave just five runs in his two over spell.

New Mexico Tech alumnus Justin Paul, who joined the team at Albuquerque, bowled two overs. He got two wickets in his first over and one wicket in his second. Mayank, who bowled three overs, gave away just 16 runs in his spell, taking a wicket and assisting in a run out as well. Overall, Tech maintained disciplined bowling throughout the game, restricting the UNM Lobos to 49/8 in 10 overs.

Chasing an easy target of 50 runs in 10 overs, openers Sidharth Arunkumar and Primal Silva gave a blazing start to the innings, scoring 40 runs in 6 overs, before Primal got out. Nels Iverson went to bat next to finish off the innings with Sidharth. Tech easily chased 50 runs in 7.2 overs. Sidharth Arunkumar was named Man of the Match for scoring 20 runs and guiding the team to victory.

Tech played its fourth and last game of the league against Team Bangla of UNM. Losing the toss and batting first, Tech started losing wickets at regular intervals, but the team put up a decent score of 56. The Tech bowlers managed to get only one wicket of team Bangla, before they chased the target successfully in 7.2 overs.

At the end of the league stage, the Tech cricket team was tied with four other teams for a semifinal spot. Aspen 1, Aspen 2, Team Bangla and UNM Lobos managed to enter the semifinals based on Net Run Rate. The NMT Cricket Club will resume matches in spring 2016.
