NWHIC is a project of the Office on Women's Health in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services which was established in 1991. NWHIC is a first-rate gateway to a vast array of women's health information resources allowing visitors to read and download a wide variety of materials developed by HHS, other Federal agencies, and private sector resources.
National Women's Health Resource Center
The NWHRC web site is a clearinghouse for women's health information with a Health Center covering over seventy-five topics ranging from aging to weight management.
The National Guideline Clearinghouse
The National Guideline Clearinghouse (NGC) is a comprehensive database of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines from government and professional organizations. One can search the database by keyword, disease/condition, treatment/intervention or organization.
National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine
This web site is an important resource for complementary and alternative medicine information and is nicely divided into a section for patients and practitioners and another for researchers.
New York Times' Women's Health Site
This site, part of the New York Times website, includes a pull-down menu titled "Women's Resources" that links to pages with information on many health subjects and annotated lists of relevant links.
HealthWeb is a list of non-commercial, health-related, Internet-accessible resources developed by cooperating university libraries. The information is very dense, but wide-ranging.
Society for Women's Health Research
AssociationsFor an overview of women's health research there is no better starting point than this web site which includes an annual collection of scientific research findings from medical/health groups, university-based research, the National Institutes of Health and private industry.
American Medical Women's Association
AMWA is an organization of 10,000 women physicians and medical students dedicated to serving as a unique voice for women's health and the advancement of women in medicine. The AMWA web site is a valuable resource for finding authoritative women's health information.
AMA's web site offers two excellent sections for women's health information. Under Consumer Health Information, one can link to the Women's Health page, which offers easy-to-understand information on topics such as breast cancer, caring for your body, menopause, osteoporosis and contraceptive choices. In the Journals section, is a link to JAMA's Women's Health Information Center.
Planned Parenthood Federation of America
Fertility & Family PlanningThis web site offers an impressive array of factual information on birth control methods, sexually transmitted infections, safer sex, abortion and guides for pregnancy and parenting. A directory of Planned Parenthood Health Centers allows searching by zip code, state name or by clicking on a United States map.
American Society for Reproductive Medicine
ASRM is devoted to advancing knowledge and expertise in reproductive medicine and biology and promoting the study of reproduction and reproductive disorders. The ASRM web site is logically organized with large sections designed for patients, health professionals and media professionals.
National Adoption Information Clearinghouse
NAIC is a service of the Children's Bureau in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The value of this web site lies in its three searchable databases.
Abortion Clinics OnLine is a directory of websites of over 200 providers of abortion services and other reproductive health care. Visitors can view clinic lists organized by category (e.g. late abortion, general anesthesia, emergency contraception), alphabetically, or by state.

The best way to access information is to search one of the site's twelve databases such as the Prevention Materials Database (PMD) and the Treatment Resource Database (TRD).
