Balloon Quilt


Machine pieced and machine quilted (30 x 34 inches)

This quilt began as a paper pieced 3" and 1 1/2" balloon block swap on the internet in 1997, using paper pieced balloon blocks designed by Mary Ann Beattie.

The quilt is made up of balloon blocks meticulously sewn and flown in by:

Proceeds from the 1997 fundraising quilt, Whose Library? brought in more than $2000 for the Foundation's many projects, and the 1998 fundraising quilt, It's a Small World raised another $2100.

The winner of "The First Ever Black Range International Balloon Festival" quilt is, appropriately, from Albuquerque and a hot air balloon chase crew member since 1978: Joseph D. "Joe" Sabatini, Director, Main Branch, et al, Albuquerque Public Library, etc. Congratulations Joe!! This year's raffle raised about $1500 (at preliminary count) for the Foundation.
