Jessica's Internet Sampler
Jessica's Internet Sampler
A Baby Quilt for Kimberly Strong and Her Daughter, Jessica
I exchanged charms with Kimberly Strong in the Rainbow Exchange during
1994. In the fall Kimberly organized the Fun Fabric Exchange. By
November she announced to us all that she was expecting a baby in May.
Seven of us who knew her from these exchanges decided to make her baby a
quilt.
We chose a red calico with yellow, green and blue flowers as the sashing and borders. Each
participant made a 12" block of her own chosing and sent it
to Betty Reynolds who assembled the top and back
and hand quilted the quilt using many colors of regular and metallic
threads.
The back of the quilt is made of
randomly arranged signed pieces of fabric each quilter sent along with
her block. Some pieces duplicate those used in their blocks; others are
"small cute animal" fabrics exchanged by the Fun Fabric Exchangers.
The label, embroidered on 18 ct aida
cloth, names the quilt "Jessica's Internet Sampler", and gives
credit to the seven quilters.
Participating block-makers include: Clare Long, Kathleen Harrison, Brenda
Lapp, Carol Payne, Lynn White, Betty Reynolds,
and Olaitan Valerie Callender-Scott.
