1. Introduction to Altacluster

Altacluster is an Alta Technology Corporation 64-node AltaCluster containing 128 Intel 450 MHz Pentium II processors. Communication between nodes is facilitated by a Myricom Myrinet network and 100Mbps Ethernet. A Promise Disk Array provides Altacluster with 2 terabytes of file storage for users.

Altacluster was originally the Alliance/UNM Roadrunner Linux Super Cluster. When first installed it ran Redhat Linux version 5.2 with the 2.2.10 Linux SMP kernel.

Altacluster now runs Redhat Linux version 9 with the 2.4 SMP Linux kernel.
