Presidential Chamber Music Series IV: Piano Quartets (Mon. 31 Mar, 2014 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm)

New Mexico Tech Performing Arts Series presents Presidential Chamber Music Concert IV: Piano Quintets. Willy Sucre on viola will be joined by Krzsztof Zimowksi and Julianie Collier Lee on violins, Sandra Rivers on piano and Joanna de Keyser on cello, to perform piano quintets by Shostakovih and Brahms. Association for Computing Machinery meeting (Mon. 31 Mar, 2014 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm)

Join the Tech student chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery, the premier professional society for computer scientists. Weekly meetings are at 8 p.m. Mondays in Cramer 101. Meetings include technical lectures and planning for events including programming competitions, outreach activities, game jams, and other items.

Faculty Senate regular meetings are the first Tuesday of the month September through April. The May meeting is held to conicide with commencement preparations. 4 p.m. in Workman 101.

Do-it-yourself Bike Repair (Wed. 2 Apr, 2014 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm)

The New Mexico Tech Bicycle Club hosts a bike repair afternoon every Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Macey Center loading dock.. The club has tools for you to do your own repairs. Club members are on hand to offer advice.

Philosophy of Math and Science Seminar (Wed. 2 Apr, 2014 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm)

A weekly seminar and discussion group surrounding the philosophy of science and mathematics. Everyone is welcome to join in the Math Conference Room in Weir Hall.

Mozart and Friends (Thu. 3 Apr, 2014 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm)

New Mexico Tech presents the 2014 Performance Program, with several upcoming concerts. "Mozart and Friends" will stage "Lunch at the Opera" on April 21 at the Macey Center recital hall during the lunch hour.

Physics Seminar (Thu. 3 Apr, 2014 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm)

Dr. Katie Richardson is the southern New Mexico field representative for Senator Martin Heinrich's office. She will present the Physics Department seminar, which is titled, "Random Paths." Career paths are never straightforward. Richardson will talk about alternative careers in science for undergraduate and graduate students, the importance of effective communication, and how she ended up being happiest doing government work as a Ph.D. in particle physics. She will also address the pressing need for scientists to engage in public policy. Students are especially encouraged to attend and ask questions. 4 p.m. in Workman 101.

Automotive Racing Club Meeting (Thu. 3 Apr, 2014 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm)

The New Mexico Tech Automotive Racing Club is a highly energized group of students that share a common interest in cars. Our members enjoy both working on and racing their cars. Feel free to join us in Workman 101 at 8 p.m. on Thursdays.

62nd NM Science & Engineering Fair (Fri. 4 Apr, 2014 9:00 am - 8:00 pm)

New Mexico Tech hosts the 62nd annual New Mexico Science & Engineering Fair on Saturday, April 5. Participants are invited to an evening of fun events the night before the Fair.  More than 100 high school and middle school students will display their projects in the Tech gymnasiums. Judging will be done by 4 p.m. Awards will be announced at Macey Center beginning at 6 p.m. The winners will earn all-expense paid trips to the International Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles from May 11 to 16. Many more students will earn scholarships and other financial incentive awards.

Materials Engineering Seminar (Fri. 4 Apr, 2014 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm)

Dr. Ronald S. Goeke, of Sandia National Laboratories, will deliver the Materials Engineering Department seminar. His talk is titled, "Synthesis and Thermal Stability of Au-ZnO Nano-Composite Thin Films for Electrical Contacts. ' Goeke received his Ph.D. and M.S. in Chemical Engineering from The University of New Mexico and his B.S. from New Mexico State University. He is presently a member of the Materials Science Center at Sandia National Laboratories. Current research efforts are primarily focused on the development of thin films via vapor deposition for tribological, optical and diffusion barrier applications. Noon Friday, April 4, in Cramer 124.

Verge Fund Speaker Series (Fri. 4 Apr, 2014 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm)

Milton Chang is the author of "Toward Entrepreneuriship" and the founder of Incubic Management, a Silicon Valley venture firm. He is the guest speaker for the Verge Fund Speaker Series, sponsored by the Verge Fund and the Management Department. He will present a roundtable discussion at 1:30 p.m. in the Tripp Room of the Skeen Library (room 212).

Mark Nizer: 3D Comedy & Juggling Show (Fri. 4 Apr, 2014 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm)

New Mexico Tech Performing Arts Series presents Mark Nizer: 3D Comedy & Juggling Show, high-tech entertainment, described as “nothing less than brilliant.” Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for seniors, $10 for youth, and free for New Mexico Tech Students. 7:30 p.m. at Macey Center. Star Party and Barbecue (Fri. 4 Apr, 2014 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm)

The New Mexico Tech Astronomy Club will host a Star Party Barbecue on the Athletic field at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 4. The club will offer free hotdogs, a Cosmos telescope giveaway, and several other giveaways! Please bring your Tech ID's to be eligible for the drawings. The club will be selling sodas and candy at the event. Keep an eye out for our posters for more information and spread the word! Also, thanks to the Student Government Association for funding the giveaway, food items, and their hard work.

Computer Science and Engineering Dissertation Defense (Fri. 4 Apr, 2014 9:00 pm - 10:00 pm)

Doctoral candidate Alex Kent will present his dissertation, titled, "Integrated Enterprise Cyber-Security Through the Exploitation of Distributed Event Data." 3 p.m. in the Graduate Office Conference Room, second floor of the Fidel Center..

Annual Book Sale (Sat. 5 Apr, 2014 9:00 am - 3:00 pm)

The Friends of the Socorro Public Library will host the annual book sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the sidewalks between the Fidel Center and Workman Center.  Come find some inexpensive, lightly-used books! 

            

First Saturday Star Party (Sat. 5 Apr, 2014 7:00 pm)

The New Mexico Tech Astronomy Club holds a free public star party at the Frank T. Etscorn Observatory. The star party starts after sunset. Come out and join us for a night under the stars! If there are any questions please email the club at astro@nmt.edu.

Rocky Horror Picture Show (Sat. 5 Apr, 2014 10:00 pm - Sun. 6 Apr, 2014 3:00 am)

Transvestite Preserevation Society, a New Mexico Tech student club, will present their semesterly showing of the 'Rocky Horror Picture Show.'  This is open ONLY to New Mexico Tech students and invited alumni of the club.  Doors open at 10 p.m.-ish at the SAC.  Preshow starts 10:30 p.m.-ish.  Admission cost is a donation of non-perishable food (canned or dry goods) to be given to the local homeless shelter. You MUST be 18 or older with a valid New Mexico Tech ID. IDs will be checked at the door. No ID, no entry.
