STeP Grant

The New Mexico STEM Transfer Coalition

STeP: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Talent Expansion Program

 

STeP is led by NM Tech in collaboration with the following Partner Institutions:

Luna Community College

Northern New Mexico University

Santa Fe Community College

University of New Mexico-Los Alamos

University of New Mexico-Taos

&

The New Mexico Regional Development Corporation

The goals of STeP are to:

  • Improve 2-year and 4-year graduation rates
  • Facilitate the transfer of 2-year students into 4-year baccalaureate programs
  • Enhance advisement and student development
  • Have undergraduate research opportunities available

To Qualify for Application into the program at the above mentioned Partner Institutions, students must:

~ Be a US citizen, National of the US, an alien with refugee status, or a Permanent Resident.

~ Be enrolled in at least 9 credits each semester, and making good progress towards transferring to a 4-year institution

~ Have declared a STEM major (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics)

~ Be in good academic standing

~ Be enrolled in appropriate Math courses each semester

~ Be able to commit to STeP requirements

Benefits a STeP Scholar will receive:

  • Participation stipend upon completion of agreement
  • Guidance in developing a degree plan to complete a 2-year degree and transfer to a 4-year degree
  • Assistance in finding resources like:
  1. Scholarships
  2. Workshops
  3. Internships
  4. Research experiences
  • Travel stipends to visit NM Tech for campus visits
