SOCORRO, N.M., Nov. 19, 2003— The New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources (NMBGMR), in cooperation with the U.S. Geological Survey, recently published a large, poster-size geologic map of New Mexico, which offers a concise geologic view of the entire state.
“Geologic Map of New Mexico” provides a spectacular (and colorful) scaled view of New Mexico’s geology. The 47-inch by 54-inch map, printed on a scale of 1:500,000, incorporates a rainbow of colors that denote a wide variety of geological formations. An equally enormous explanation and key accompany the large map.
This map is the first substantial revision of the geologic map of New Mexico at this scale since the State Geologic Map of New Mexico was published in 1965. Compilation for this map began in 1985 and spanned the administrations of three directors at NMBGMR.
“Geologic Map of New Mexico” is available for purchase from NMBGMR for $20. It can be purchased at NMBGMR’s Socorro offices at New Mexico Tech, or at their offices in Albuquerque at 2808 Central SE. It can also be ordered by mail, telephone, or e-mail for an additional $10 shipping and handling fee.
