ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., May 4, 2005 – New Mexico Tech President Daniel H. López was honored at a recent fund-raising dinner and awards ceremony in Albuquerque by being named one of the recipients of this year’s prestigious New Mexico Spirit of Achievement Award.
U.S. Congresswoman Heather Wilson was the other recipient of the annual award, which is bestowed on selected individuals by the National Jewish Medical and Research Center, based in Denver, Colo.
More than 300 people attended the fundraiser at the Sheraton Old Town, with about $81,000 in proceeds being raised for National Jewish.
In accepting the award, President López reiterated the importance of stepping up efforts in public service and philanthropic support of nonprofit organizations such as National Jewish.
Founded in 1899, National Jewish Medical and Research Center is known worldwide for treatment of patients with respiratory, immune, and allergic disorders, and for groundbreaking medical research.
