SOCORRO, N.M., March 10, 2008 -- Is your college-age student a mover and shaker?
New Mexico Tech in Socorro is offering a special summer camp in the science and engineering applications of explosive materials, for 18-year-old (and older) students in a two-week session this summer.
Students will have the opportunity to learn about the history and physics of explosives, the chemistry of explosives and how explosives are used for industrial and civil engineering purposes. For example, industrial diamonds are formed using explosives, fireworks are manufactured safely, and robots are used to detect anti-personnel mines in mine fields.
“Camp Movers and Shakers” will be offered on the New Mexico Tech campus in Socorro from June 16 through 28. The fee of $900 covers tuition, supplies, field trips, room and board for the 12-day camp.
For information and applications, students or their parents should call 575-835-5348 or 835-5492.
