SOCORRO, N.M., Nov. 16, 2006 – If you happen to hear a “boom” tonight, don’t be alarmed: It’s only New Mexico Tech’s Energetic Materials Research and Testing Center (EMRTC) conducting a special nighttime explosives test for KOB-TV’s 10 p.m. live broadcast of “Eyewitness News” on Channel 4.

Ordnance personnel at EMRTC will be setting off a relatively small (less than 500 pounds) explosives test behind Socorro Peak (“M” Mountain), sometime between 10 and 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 16. However, depending on atmospheric conditions, there is a likelihood that the blast could be heard and felt in Socorro.

The nighttime demonstration is being conducted in connection with an ongoing report about EMRTC’s first-responder training programs being compiled this week by KOB-TV news reporter Shelton Dodson.
