SOCORRO, N.M. November 15, 2012– New Mexico Tech’s international students will put their cultures on display for the annual Global Village Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday in the gym.
The event will feature exhibits of the many cultures at Tech, performances, door prizes, music, food, and more. Get your "passport" to have stamped at each country's booth. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the East Gym.
In addition to the ever-popular food samples, the international booths typically include books, postcards, clothing, music, videos, art and other items from each country.
Students from these countries will have booths in the gym: China, Croatia, Egypt, Germany, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Nigeria, Norway and Romania.
Four performances scheduled for the day:
11:30 a.m. - Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble
12:30 p.m. - Mariachi Music Bernie Romero & Friends feat. Darlene Torres
1 p.m. - Morning Dew Dance Group
1:30 p.m. - Aditi Natesa Belly Dance
Door prizes from various countries will be given out throughout the event as well.
“Global Village Day is a culmination of a week long of International Education Week, celebrated throughout the United States,” said Lillian Armijo of the Student Services Office. “We’ve been doing this for many years and it’s a great way to bring the Tech community together and learn about other cultures.”
