Lillian Armijo, the new director of student services, has about three dozen recruiters committed to attending the event this spring.

The semi-annual event will be from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, in the Fidel Center’s third floor ballrooms.

“Our presenters this spring have jobs and internships available for students in every academic department on campus,” Armijo said. “We have a great mix of companies and agencies that are looking to hire Techies.”

For details on each presenter, see the Career Fair website at www.nmt.edu/career-fair. Each recruiting group includes a description of the company and a list of disciplines they are hiring. For the complete Career Fair brochure, click here.

Christina Anthony, director of career services, said students can prepare themselves for the Career Fair in several ways. First, students should research the companies in attendance and what their specialties are.

“Be prepared to talk about yourself and show some knowledge of the organization,” Anthony said.

Students should bring resumés and dress professionally. Six recruiters will be making appointments with students during the Career Fair for official interviews to be conducted after the event – either Thursday afternoon or Friday.

Anthony and Armijo are also hosting three sessions to help students prepare.

A resumé and cover letter writing workshop is Tuesday, Jan. 24.

A networking workshop will be Thursday, Jan. 26.

An interviewing workshop will be Monday, Jan. 30.

Each workshop is at 5 p.m. in the Career Services office (Fidel Center 262).

“We are here to help students make the transition from student to a career,” Armijo said. “These workshops and the career fairs are important events to help students. I encourage Techies to take advantage of the services we offer.”

Five recruiters will hold separate sessions after the Career Fair.

Scientific Drilling will interview candidates from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday in the Student Affairs conference room (second floor of Fidel).

NAVAIR will hold an informational session from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday in Library 212, then conduct interviews all day Friday in the Center for Student Success (second floor of Fidel).

The National Security Agency will hold an information session from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Library 212.

Granite Construction Co. will conduct interviews all day Friday in the Career Services office.

Peabody Energy will conduct interviews all day Friday in the Career Services office.
