Ceremonies will begin at 10 a.m., an hour later than last year. The event will be on the north side of Macey Center, adjacent to the Tech golf course. The reception will be on the lawn on the south side of Macey Center immediately following the ceremony. The ceremony will be broadcast live on the Internet. |The 2011 Commencement Ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 14.
Graduates are invited to sit for official portraits – individually, within family or with friends – from 8 to 9 a.m. and from noon to 2 p.m. at the northwest corner of Macey Center. Courtesy of the Alumni Office, prints are free for graduates.
Four student awards will be announced during the ceremony: the Cramer and Brown awards, given to the top undergraduate students, and the Langmuir and Founder's awards, given to graduate students.
Also, the Student Association, the Graduate Student Association and the Alumni Association each will present annual awards.
Although the list of graduates will not be approved until the day before the ceremony, the Registrar’s Office expects the Class of 2011 to be about 340 individuals, which includes the monthly graduation lists that have already been approved from June 2010 to April 2011. The Class of 2011 includes 2 associate’s, 205 bachelor’s, 117 master’s and 16 Ph.D.’s. As of Monday, May 9, about 200 members of the class of 2011 had registered to walk in graduation.
The Student Services Office is hosting a reception for Class of 2011 international students from 1 to 3 p.m. in its office in the Fidel Center
The Research Office has invited this year’s graduates to blow up their memorabilia at 2 p.m. Friday. Those interested must call Lavern Robinson at 835-5616 to participate.
The Alumni Relations Office will host a special reception from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, May 13, at the Golf Course Pavilion for all members of the Class of 2011 and their families. Alumni are also welcome to attend. The reception will have complementary hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar.
The Alumni Office is also hosting a Golden Reunion celebration for the Class of 1961 from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 13, at Macey Center.
The live Webcast will be delivered courtesy of the Distance Ed office. To watch the live Webcast, go to http://distance.nmt.edu/grad2011 prior to the start of Commencement and find the link to the Live Broadcast along with directions and information on the upcoming recorded and downloadable Commencement files.
The site will be up in advance of Ceremonies, so feel free to go to the link and test your Internet connection ahead of time. If you have trouble accessing the connection, you may be prompted to download the free Adobe Flash plug-in.
Viewers will be allowed in on a first-come, first-served basis – depending on the number logging in, some may have to be turned away.
A link to a recording of the 2011 Ceremonies will be available soon after Commencement ends. The Ceremony will be available also as a polished, downloadable file 7-10 days after Commencement at http://distance.nmt.edu/grad2011, so that you can burn your own DVD.
