SOCORRO, N.M., Jan. 8, 2007 – Southwest Contractor magazine has named New Mexico Tech’s Joseph A. Fidel Student Services Center the best higher education construction project in the state for 2006.
Fidel Center was one of 19 New Mexico construction projects honored last month by Southwest Contractor in its annual Best Awards program, which recognizes construction and design excellence among New Mexico, Nevada, and Arizona construction projects.
More than 520 entries were received from throughout the Southwest region, with 160 stemming from New Mexico construction projects, the magazine editor stated in an issued press release.
“The quality of design and construction demonstrated by the projects in this year’s competition was outstanding,” said Scott Blair, editor of Southwest Contractor. “It was a real pleasure to see all these incredible projects throughout the state. Everyone in New Mexico should be extremely proud of the work being accomplished by these talented contractors and design firms.”
Winning projects, which are described in the December 2006 issue of Southwest Contractor, were chosen by an independent panel of judges on the following criteria: quality of design and construction; innovation; contribution to the industry; ability to overcome challenges; and overall excellence.
