Local Families Will Get Free Expert Help on Federal Financial Aid Form (FAFSA)
Free Financial Aid Advice and Assistance in Clovis, Farmington, and Albuquerque
February 24-25, 2007
College Goal Sunday New Mexico will take place on February 24 and February 25 in four locations around New Mexico. College Goal Sunday will provide ALL college-bound students and parents FREE assistance in filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Financial aid representatives from several New Mexico colleges and universities and private organizations will be on site to answer questions about financial aid and the FAFSA. Financial aid deadlines are fast approaching.
“We know that financing a college education can be a challenge,” said Dr. Beverlee J. McClure, Cabinet Secretary of the New Mexico Higher Education Department. “In New Mexico, we are working to eliminate the financial barriers our students face. College Goal Sunday is one of the ways we can teach students how easy it is to access financial aid.”
The FAFSA form is the most important form every student who needs financial aid must fill out. College Goal Sunday is designed to provide hands-on, individual assistance to help students electronically fill out the numbers-heavy FAFSA form. This detailed form is the primary method by which colleges and universities determine eligibility for most loans, grants and other aid nationwide.
Students should bring their parents’ or guardians’ completed 2006 IRS 1040 tax returns, W-2 forms and other 2006 income and benefits information. If the college-bound student is financially independent, they should bring their personal income tax documents.
College Goal Sunday is a national event that will take place in 25 states around the country. Primary funding is provided by the Lumina Foundation for Education. At each location, two $500 scholarships will be awarded during College Goal Sunday.
