SOCORRO, N.M., Aug. 16, 2007 – New Mexico Tech student Porter Smith was recently featured in a question–and–answer article in Racing West.
The article covers Smith’s racing history, as well as his current progress as a Stockcar Racing League (SRL) rookie. Smith is currently pursuing a bachelor’s of science in mechanical engineering at the state-supported research university.
Racing West is an Internet website (www.racingwest.com) that offers an abundance of information about the world of car racing. It provides the latest racing news and offers message boards, classifieds, schedules, race results, driver stats, and links to other race–related websites.
Smith’s 2007 SRL Wild West Shootout driving stats, which have placed him 8th in the standings, include five starts, two top 5 finishes, and three top 10 finishes. His race results since May of this year include a 4th place finish at Shasta Raceway Park in Anderson, Calif. on May 5th and a 2nd place finish at Altamont Motorsport Park in Tracy, Calif. on August 4.
Smith currently drives a Chevrolet Monte Carlo and is sponsored by Paul Oil.
Smith, who hails from Aztec, N. M., is working on finishing up his mechanical engineering degree at New Mexico Tech. He has a long racing history, as well as what appears to be a promising future in SRL.
Smith is described by the Racing West article as “…a nice guy, great driver, and dedicated to racing.” With the progress he has made, it is suggested by Racing West contributors that this New Mexico Tech student could put up a good fight for this year’s SRL Wild West Shootout Rookie of the Year title.
