SOCORRO, N.M., September 19, 2000 -- New Mexico Tech is listed as the 20th best buy among the nation's public colleges and universities in an article featured in the current issue of Kiplinger's magazine.
The state-funded research university in Socorro is the only New Mexico school included in this year's list of top 100 best values in public colleges, as determined by Kiplinger's.
New Mexico Tech also received special mentions in the article as a university "where everyone knows your kid" and as a public-college bargain that's "best for out-of-state students."
Kiplinger's overall rankings were determined by using information that the schools themselves supplied, along with data and statistics on 1,800 schools provided by Wintergreen-Orchard House and the U.S. Department of Education.
New Mexico Tech has consistently been touted as a "best buy" in MONEY magazine's annual rankings of best college buys and also is listed each year as one of the best engineering schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.
