SOCORRO, July 13, 2000 -- Peter F. Gerity recently was named vice president for academic affairs at New Mexico Tech, administrators at the state-funded research university announced today.
Gerity previously served the past six years as vice president for research at Utah State University in Logan, Utah's second-largest public university.
"New Mexico Tech is indeed very fortunate to have hired such an outstanding individual to fill this key administrative position at our school," says Tech President Daniel H. López. "Throughout his career, Dr. Gerity has established a proven track record of excellence in teaching and research, as well as in academic administration."
In his new leadership role as vice president for academic affairs at New Mexico Tech, Gerity will oversee and supervise all aspects of the college division at the university, including personnel and budgetary matters for all academic departments and related units.
"We look forward to an efficient and progressive tenure as Dr. Gerity takes the helm of New Mexico Tech's Office of Academic Affairs," López adds.
Gerity earned his baccalaureate degree from Delaware Valley College in Doylestown, Pa., his secondary science education certification from Montclair State College in Montclair, N.J., and both his master's and doctoral degrees from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Va.
Prior to assuming his former administrative position at Utah State University, where he also served as both a professor of engineering and a professor of agriculture, Gerity was an associate dean at the University of Utah's college of engineering.
In addition to his active involvement with several, ongoing research projects, Gerity also currently serves as president of AMS, Inc. Consulting Services and A&G International, an international and domestic agribusiness and technology marketing company.
