Career Fair

New Mexico Tech Career Fair

February 12 , 2009, Fidel Center

9 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

 

This event is held twice a year – usually in late September and mid February. Career Fair serves as a kick-off for the semester’s recruiting.

Students
This is your opportunity to visit informally with representatives of various employers and ask questions about:

• What positions they hire for
• Whether they have internship or cooperative education programs
• Courses they would advise you to take if you wanted to work for them

 

Some companies will have interviews or information sessions the evening or day after Career Fair.

To sign up for information sessions and to schedule interviews, students must have access to Interfase, although, often, companies sign up interviews at Career Fair.

Watch for posters around campus and notices in Paydirt and Scope. Plan to take advantage of this opportunity!

Employers
When making your travel arrangements, you might want to consider coming early or staying late - some of our employers plan to visit with faculty, others have expressed an interest in the New Mexico Tech golf course, and there's always the Very Large Array (as filmed for the movie "Contact," with Jodie Foster) out on the San Augustin Plains. Directions
The nearest airport to New Mexico Tech is Albuquerque International Sunport, which is served by most major airlines and car rental companies. New Mexico Tech is approximately 72 miles south of the airport, on I-25. If you are flying in, but not renting a vehicle, you might want to make travel arrangements with Socorro Taxi at 575.835.4276.

To reach Tech from Albuquerque:

  1. Take I-25, exit 150
  2. From the exit ramp, continue on California Street (Socorro's main street) to the second light, Bullock Avenue, (between Taco Bell & Kentucky Fried Chicken)
  3. Turn right (west) onto Bullock Avenue (toward “M” Mountain)
  4. At the second stop sign, Leroy Place, turn left (south)
  5. New Mexico Tech will be on your right. You may park anywhere on campus—no parking stickers are required.

To reach Tech from Las Cruces:

  1. Take I-25, exit 147
  2. From the exit ramp, continue on California Street/Highway 85 (Socorro's main street) to College Avenue
  3. Turn left (west) onto College Avenue (toward “M” Mountain)
  4. At the second stop sign, Leroy Place, turn right (north)
  5. New Mexico Tech will be on your left. You may park anywhere on campus—no parking stickers are required.

To ship your display in advance:
Check with your carrier to determine your shipping date. If possible, you want your shipment to arrive no earlier than 2 days before the Career Fair. For Fall 2008, attempt to have your shipment arrive on the 16th or 17th of September.
