Helpful Information for Transfer Students

Transfer students are welcome to live on campus. The Residential Life Office coordinates all on-campus housing, which ranges from dorm rooms to apartments for families. Off-campus apartments and houses for rent are plentiful. The Residential Life Office maintains a list of off-campus living options. The classifieds in the local newspaper, El Defensor Chieftain, also lists some rental options.
The Albuquerque International Sunport is the closest major airport, located about an hour north of Socorro. Several major airlines fly to the Sunport. The New Mexico Rail Runner Express is a high-speed train that runs south to Belen, located between Socorro and Albuquerque. From there, Socorro Transit can transport you from Belen to Socorro. Be sure to check schedules in advance; reservations are strongly recommended and may be required. Socorro Transit also transports passengers around Socorro and surrounding areas.
Financing your Education
The Financial Aid Office offers a variety of scholarships and grants, including scholarships specifically for transfer students.
The Career Services Office handles postings for off- and on-campus employment. Create a Tech Career Connect account to view current postings. The Career Services Office also coordinates a Career & Graduate School Fair each semester.
The Center for Student Success offers free tutoring and other help for many courses. Take advantage of the assistance offered through the CSS right away.
New Mexico Tech's Student Health Center is able to offer many of the services provided by your primary care doctor at home, including prescriptions, vaccinations, lab work, and more.
The newly-constructed Children's Center on campus offers preschool and after school programs for children of students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Students interested in spending a semester or more off-campus can make arrangements through the International & Exchange Programs Office.
The SGA is New Mexico Tech's Student Government Association. The SGA funds many clubs across campus and is an excellent way to become involved in campus life.
Life in Socorro
What is there to do in Socorro? Lots, actually! From restaurants and shopping on the historic plaza to golf, hiking, and rock climbing, Socorro offers a variety of activities. Learn more at the Socorro Chamber of Commerce website. On campus, take a Community Education course, join an intramural sports team, swim in the pool, or attend a Performing Arts Series show.
