James Dewald (96, BS, physics) passed away on Sept. 7, 2007, in Houston. He had received his doctorate from NMSU this summer and had been hired by the University of Houston to teach an introductory physics course this fall. His research area at NMSU included near-field scanning optical microscopy, atomic force microscopy and scanning tunneling microscopy.
Glenn Keith Hodson
, class of 1944 graduate in metallurgical engineering, passed away on June 29, 2007. He loved Socorro and the School of Mines. He even married a local girl, Agnes Zimmerly, in 1942. Glenn was a miner for most of his life, buying and operating the Rainbow Ridge Opal Mine in Northern Nevada in 1949. It is still in the family with his son, Glen, running it every summer.

Frederick R. Parker
died March 28, 2007. He graduated in 1953. He worked at Los Alamos National Lab until this retirement in 1991. He is survived by his wife, Margery Parker.

Edward C. Perkins (39, BS, mining engr.) passed away on July 30, 2007. He was a lifetime member of the Alumni Association.

Steven R. Thurston, a 1940 graduate of the School of Mines with a degree in mining engineering, passed away on Jan. 9, 2005 at the age of 90. He did consultant work as a civil engineer up until his 89th year.
