People You Know, May to July 2010

Bruce Kennedy (73, BS, mining engr.) recently moved to Tucson, Ariz. He writes, “I am currently working in the consulting industry and am involved in mining activities around the world. The last six months have seen me in Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Peru, Panama and Mexico as well as at several sites in the United States. I am working remotely on a mine in Israel, too. The change from working for mining companies to consulting has been interesting.”

Dr. Michael Glaviano (79, Ph.D., mathematical physics) decided to switch gears after over 28 years in high tech. He is the author of the novel The Locust Queen's Feast , available in both Kindle and print versions from Amazon. The book is described as “a contemporary story of parallel worlds and the loss of magic in our own. It is told against a backdrop of urban decay, alienation, obsession, and unmitigated evil.”

Leland Huffman (80, BS, geophysics) has been named ISR Engineering and Operations Manager for Bayswater Uranium Corporation for the Reno Creek Uranium Project in Wyoming. He will oversee the development of wellfield and processing plant design, and support the environmental permitting process presently underway for the Reno Creek project. Mr. Huffman, B.Sc. has a career spanning more than 28 years in the uranium mining industry with expertise in wellfield design, development, construction and operations with particular emphasis on post mining groundwater restoration.

Mona (Guzman) Ellis (84, BS, physics and math) received tenure as a professor of mathematics at Palomar College in San Marcos, CA. She changed career paths after several years working as a project manager and scientific programmer studying effects of nuclear radiation. She finds teaching math at a community college to be much more fulfilling than her previous defense work.

Mona lives in Carlsbad, Calif., with her husband of 26 years, Ron, and their two children, A.J. and Audrey. A.J. will be transferring from Palomar College to UC Santa Cruz in the fall. Audrey is in the sixth grade and an avid volleyball player.

Warren Marts (90, BS, computer science) now caters to the computer crowd by selling gourmet coffee, pastries, sandwiches, and gelato at Manzanares St. Coffee House, of which he is the new owner.

Patrick Radabaugh (B.S. 1995, environmental engr.) and his wife, Cristy, are pleased to announce the birth of their first born, Elena Kelly. Elena was born March 8 at 11:19 AM and was seven pounds, five ounces, and twenty inches long. Mom and baby are both doing great. Pat can be reached at pdradabaugh@mac.com.
