Minutes of Alumni Board Meeting
Held on Jan. 22, 2009

Present: Louise Chamberlin, Linda Gonzales, Edie Steinhoff, Shasta Marrero (pres. GSA); Cheryl Pulaski, Kathy Hedges

Calling in: Brett Wendt (president, NMTAA); Russ Erbes; John Dowdle, Paul Shoemaker, Geza Keller, Richard Miller

Cheryl P.: Education in the state of NM faces a $21 million shortfall. We have lost Carol Lynn and a secretarial position. Gives approximate figures for amounts raised last year for various funds.

Kathy H.: describes some coming TV shows featuring Tech.

CP: Work is progressing on a new website for NMT. We will work on features such as online giving and other things alumni have been requesting.

Discussion of logos, symbols, colors, and seals – which to use under what circumstances. Lopez has ruled that we use the mountain logo, with different words under the logo. New webpages will include all the different past logos, rotating. Gold Pan now includes all names of the institution.

Kathy: I have set up a Google account to maintain an alumni calendar for Tech alums. Called “nmimtalum.” [Note: I have not yet been able to get this to work.]

Brett Wendt suggests looking at Windows Live, which has a “Collaborate” function. Shasta says Google does.

Complaint that bookstore does not have logo items that alumni would want to buy. Louise Chamberlin requests that alums email her with suggestions, so bookstore can stock items.

Russ wants a banner for the Colorado Chapter. Examples of other colleges that have varying logos and symbols. Cheryl will write up a statement as to what Alumni Assn can use; get Ricardo Maestas and Dr. Lopez to look it over.

Geza asks about alumni Lifetime Dues that was supposed to go into Alumni Endowment or Alumni Assn Activities fund. Cheryl will see how that was written up. Geza would like it to be used to run a webpage. Current Annual Campaign brought in $200 to Alumni Endowment.

Cheryl: We would like to have an active calendar of alumni activities and trips.

Kathy: Need nominations for awards:

Distinguished Achievement and Distinguished Research, given by NMTAA. Kathy will look up wording.

Distinguished Teaching: given by Office of Academic Affairs, but they would like nominations from alumni.

Next meeting: Feb. 19, 3 p.m., Mountain Time.
