Academic Year Component
August - May
During the regular APS school year, UBMS offers students a free tutoring program after school one day per week. During these sessions, students have the opportunity to work in groups or individually with the tutor to help improve their performance in their core academic courses (thereby increasing their overall GPA), practicing for standardized tests such as the NMHSCE, PSAT, SAT and ACT.
Also, one Saturday per month, students will participate in the UBMS Learning Institute to help them develop solid skills in math, science, and writing across the curriculum. These activities will include workshops, seminars, field trips, laboratory experience, and research projects aim to intensify, enhance, empower, and develop their skills.
Summer Residential Program
June - July
For six weeks every summer, UBMS students travel to New Mexico Tech and participate in a full, residential college experience. Under the careful supervision of the UBMS staff, students live in the residence halls, eat in the cafeterias, receive intensive instruction in college preparatory classes, and make use of the facilities available at Tech. This program is designed to simulate the college experience for UBMS students and to help generate the skills and motivation necessary for students to succeed in high school and beyond.
