Academic Year Component - Tutoring and Saturday Sessions
August 2015 - May 2016
During the regular APS school year, UBMS offers students a free tutoring program after school one day per week with an additional day offered at the UBMS office. During these sessions, students have the opportunity to work in groups or individually with the tutor, to help improve their performance in their core academic courses. Tutoring helps students raise their GPA!
Students may also practice for standardized tests such as the NMHSCE, PSAT, SAT and ACT.
In addition, one Saturday per month, students participate in the activities which include workshops, seminars, field trips, laboratory experience, and research projects. Saturday Sessions empower our students to and develop their math and science skills. But the sessions also enhance our students language, cultural and social experiences.
2016 Summer Program
Tentative: May 30th - July 10th
For six weeks this summer, UBMS students will travel to New Mexico Tech or stay in Albuquerque at UNM and participate in a full, residential college experience from Beginning June 1st. Under the careful supervision of the UBMS staff, students will live in the residence halls, eat in the dining hall, receive intensive instruction in college preparatory classes, and make use of the facilities available at Tech. This program is designed to simulate the college experience and to help generate the skills and motivation necessary for students to succeed in high school and beyond.
In previous years, we have spent a week camping, where students learned outdoor skills, with academic components about the Geology, Biology and Archeology of the local area. We have also attended a robotics and rocket building workshops in Albuquerque, on the UNM campus.
