DESCRIPTION:
<span style='font-size: 10pt\; font-family: 'Courier New'\;'
>Ray Norris of the Australia Telescope National Facility will present the
NM-NRAO Colloquium. He will discuss 'ASKAP-EMU: The Challenge of Deep Wide
Radio Continuum Surveys.' The Australian SKA Pathfinder (ASKAP) is expect
ed to start the Evolutionary Map of the Universe survey within the next ye
ar. The project will catalog 70 million galaxies\, for many of which we wi
ll also measure spectral indices and polarization. Unexpected phenomena ma
y lurk in dark corners of the database that will never be fully explored\,
and so remain undiscovered. Can we harness data-mining techniques to help
the intelligent observer search for the unexpected in next generation sur
veys such as EMU? 11 a.m. at the Domenici Science Operation Center (NRAO)
auditorium.
