Association for Computing Machinery meeting (Mon. 3 Mar, 2014 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm)

Join the Tech student chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery, the premier professional society for computer scientists. Weekly meetings are at 8 p.m. Mondays in Cramer 101. Meetings include technical lectures and planning for events including programming competitions, outreach activities, game jams, and other items.

Strategic Plan Town Hall Meeting (Tue. 4 Mar, 2014 9:00 am - 11:00 am)

All employees, students and community members are invited to a town hall meeting to provide input for the New Mexico Tech Strategic Plan. 9 a.m. in the third floor ballrooms of the Fidel Center.

Mechanical Engineering Seminar (Tue. 4 Mar, 2014 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm)

Tech graduate student Blaine Trujillo will present the department seminar. His talk is titled "Monitoring of Acoustic Emission Using Thin Wafer Piezoelectric Sensors."  2 p.m. Cramer 124.

Faculty Senate (Tue. 4 Mar, 2014 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm)

Faculty Senate regular meetings are the first Tuesday of the month September through April. The May meeting is held to conicide with commencement preparations. 4 p.m. in Workman 101.

Strategic Plan Town Hall Meeting (Wed. 5 Mar, 2014 10:00 am - 12:00 pm)

All employees, students and community members are invited to a town hall meeting to provide input for the New Mexico Tech Strategic Plan. 10 a.m. in the third floor ballrooms of the Fidel Center.

Property Procedures Training Workshop (Wed. 5 Mar, 2014 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm)

A short and sweet introduction and refresher class on the care and handling of barcode-tagged property will be presented at 1:30 p.m. in the Tripp Room (Skeen Library 212). For more information and to reserve a seat, please contact Suzanne at x5764.

Property PolicyTraining (Wed. 5 Mar, 2014 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm)

New Mexico Tech employees are invited to attend a short training session presented by the Property Office at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, in the Tripp Room at Skeen Library (room 212).
The session will touch on everything you wanted to know about property but were afraid to ask:

  • • Why some property is tagged and other property isn't.
  • • What purchasing documents and account codes to use when ordering property that needs to be tagged.
  • • When and under what circumstances you need to contact the Property Office about a piece of property.
  • • Where to find used property that you can have for free.
  • • How to get rid of property you don't want or need anymore (the right way).

This training is highly recommended for all members of the New Mexico Tech community, especially those who have never attended a property training and those who haven't attended one recently and may not be aware of changes in policy and procedure that have been implemented over the last year or so.

Do-it-yourself Bike Repair (Wed. 5 Mar, 2014 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm)

The New Mexico Tech Bicycle Club hosts a bike repair afternoon every Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Macey Center loading dock.. The club has tools for you to do your own repairs. Club members are on hand to offer advice.

Spring 2014 Student Forum (Wed. 5 Mar, 2014 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm)

The Student Forum is an open forum to discuss any student concerns or issues on campus with a variety of administrators and the vice presidents. The main topic this semester will be the tuition increase. If students have any concerns or issues ahead of time, please email them to your Student Government President Malcolm Lockett at mlockett@nmt.edu. 

Philosophy of Math and Science Seminar (Wed. 5 Mar, 2014 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm)

A weekly seminar and discussion group surrounding the philosophy of science and mathematics. Everyone is welcome to join in the Math Conference Room in Weir Hall.

Movie Night At Loma Theater (Wed. 5 Mar, 2014 9:00 pm - 11:00 pm)

Every first Wednesday of the month the Student Activity Board sponsors a FREE Movie Night at the local theater - Loma Theater. The late show is FREE to all students. Provide ID's in order to attend this event. Check the theater's website for the movie title and precise show time.

Students are invited to a town hall meeting to provide input for the New Mexico Tech Strategic Plan. 5 p.m. in the Fidel Center dining hall. (Students are welcome to attend the other town hall meetings; however, this event is hosted by students and intended for students only).

Rocking Spring Swing Dance (Thu. 6 Mar, 2014 7:00 pm - 11:00 pm)

Auxiliary Services is hosting a Redneck Rockabilly Spring Swing Dance from 7 to 11 p.m. Thursday, March 6, on the third floor of the Fidel Center. Prizes will be awarded for the best dressed. Live music will be provided by The Shadowmen, featuring Nessa Grande & Chris Hagerty. Free refreshments. All students are welcome!

Automotive Racing Club Meeting (Thu. 6 Mar, 2014 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm)

The New Mexico Tech Automotive Racing Club is a highly energized group of students that share a common interest in cars. Our members enjoy both working on and racing their cars. Feel free to join us in Workman 101 at 8 p.m. on Thursdays.

Dr. Quanxi Jia of the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies at Los Alamos National Laboratory will present "Self-Assembeled Epitaxial Nanocomposite Films: Their Strain Control and Functionalities." Noon in Cramer 101. All are Welcome!

 

Materials Engineering Seminar (Fri. 7 Mar, 2014 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm)

Dr. Amit Misra of Los Alamos National Laboratory will present the Materials Engineering Department seminar. Dr. Misra is the director of a U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Basic Energy Sciences funded Energy Frontier Research Center titled Center for Materials at Irradiation and Mechanical Extremes at the lab. His talk is "There's Plenty of Room at Material Interfaces." This talk will highlight manipulation of the bi-material interface structure and chemistry at the atomic-level to control defect phenomena at interfaces to develop novel nano-composite materials with controlled functionality for the next generation applications. Noon in Jones Hall 106.

Tap: The Show (Fri. 7 Mar, 2014 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm)

The New Mexico Tech Performing Arts Series presents "Tap: The Show," with a cast of award-winning dancers and singers traveling seamlessly over decades, from Broadway and big band to world music and pop/rock. NMTARC Autocross (Sat. 8 Mar, 2014 8:00 am - 4:00 pm)

New Mexico Tech Automotive Racing Club will be hosting an autocross at Macey Center. All drivers welcome to complete. If you do not own a car to complete, please come out to watch the race and ride along in some of the fastest cars in Socorro. Free food! IMPORTANT: If you want to drive in the event you must be at Macey to register by 8 a.m. or send an email to nmtarc@nmt.edu. For more information, please attend our weekly meeting at 8 p.m. Thursdays in Workman 101.
