Civil and Environmental Engineering Seminar (Mon. 28 Oct, 2013 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm)

Dr. Christian M "Kip" Carrico, of AECOM Inc. in Fort Collins, Colo. will present the Civil & Environmental Engineering Department seminar. He will discuss  "The Emerging Issues and Concerns of Biomass Smoke from Wildland Fire, Particularly in the Mountain West United States."Hosted by Dr. Clint Richardson. 4 p.m. in MSEC 105.

 

 

 

Air Rifle (Mon. 28 Oct, 2013 5:00 pm - 6:45 pm)

The Tech Shooting Club hosts an air rifle practice in the basement of the gym for all who are interested in learning or improving shooting skills. 5 to 6:45 p.m.

Street Hockey (Mon. 28 Oct, 2013 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm)

The Street Hockey club invites anyone interested to join us for some friendly, no contact, street hockey fun! Even if you have never rollerbladed or played hockey before, come see what it is all about! Equipment is provided (limited stock) so you don't have to worry about buying your own. Board of Regents Meeting (Thu. 31 Oct, 2013 8:30 am - 11:00 am)

The New Mexico Tech Board of Regents will meet in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in Socorro at a location to be announced.. An agenda will be available 10 days prior to the meeting via email at pio@nmt.edu.

Halloween Costume Contest (Thu. 31 Oct, 2013 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm)

The Student Activities Board and Melissa Jaramillo are sponsoring a Halloween Costume Contest in Fidel Center Atrium on Thursday, Oct 31. Sign-in begins at noon and ends at 12:15. Judging begins immediately at 12:15. Student and staff/faculty entries. Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. Get your costumes ready! Even if you don't want to participate in the contest, come and see the awesome costumes.

Physics Seminar (Thu. 31 Oct, 2013 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm)

Keith Morris, graduate student at Tech, will present the Physics Department seminar. He will discuss, "The VLA Atmospheric Phase Interferometer." The Atmospheric Phase Interferometer (API) is a two-element atmospheric seeing monitor that measures turbulent refractive index variation through the atmosphere by examining phase differences in a satellite beacon signal detected at two (or more) antennas. With this measurement, the VLA scheduling software is able to consider atmospheric stability when determining which frequency observation to schedule next. Morris will present some statistical properties of turbulence, the effects of atmospheric stability on radio interferometric observations, and discuss details of the instrument and the data that it collects. 4 p.m. in Workman 101.

Waffles (Thu. 31 Oct, 2013 10:30 pm - 11:30 pm)

Join the Waffle Club for free waffles and sometimes other things. 10:30 p.m. Thursday nights, outside the Fidel center on the north side by the Health & Counseling Center entrance.

John Chavez of the New Mexico Angels and New Mexico Startup Factory is the special guest for the Verge Fund Speaker Series. He will discuss, "Realities of Early-Stage Funding at Places like New Mexico Tech." 11 a.m. in MSEC 103. All are welcome

Andy Gross: Mindboggling (Fri. 1 Nov, 2013 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm)

New Mexico Tech Performing Arts Series presents Andy Gross, one of the hottest stand-up comics, magician, ventriloquist, working today. He will be accompanied by award winning juggler Fred Anderson. Tickets are $16 for adults, $14 for seniors, $8 for youth, and free for New Mexico Tech Students. 7:30 p.m. at Macey Center.

Exploration Day (Sat. 2 Nov, 2013 8:30 am - 4:30 pm)

Exploration Day is an all-day recruiting event Saturday, November 2.  This event is New Mexico Tech’s version of an open house to provide prospective students and their family with information regarding the opportunities at Tech. High school students get a good look at what New Mexico Tech has to offer; including student clubs and organizations. Student clubs and organizations are invited to take part in a Club Fair from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Fidel Center atrium.

Pygmy Rugby (Sat. 2 Nov, 2013 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm)

The Pygmies rugby team will travel to Albuquerque to take on the University of New Mexico at 2 p.m. Come support the Tech ruggers!

First Saturday Star Party (Sat. 2 Nov, 2013 7:00 pm)

The New Mexico Tech Astronomy Club holds a free public star party at the Frank T. Etscorn Observatory. The star party starts after sunset. Come out and join us for a night under the stars! If there are any questions please email the club at astro@nmt.edu.
