Bookstore Extended Hours (Sun. 18 Aug, 2013 8:00 am - 5:00 pm)

The New Mexico Tech Bookstore in the Fidel Center will have extended weekend hours for the beginning of the semester. 8 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 17 and 18.

Library Mini Golf (Sun. 18 Aug, 2013 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm)

Join us in the library for a rousing round of miniature golf. Snacks and prizes for all participants will be provided. Noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday the 18th.

"No-Yes" a story about Sexual Assault (Sun. 18 Aug, 2013 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm)

"No-Yes" by Katie Koestner, a story about Sexual Assault. Sunday, Aug. 18 @ 3pm in the Macey Center. Katie Koesnter has been a leader in the movement to end sexual violence since she took her own solo stand as the first survivor of date rape to speak out nationally at age 18. After appearing on the cover of Time Magazine on June 3, 1991, Katie worked with HBO to make a film about her story. Subsequently, she has appeared on nearly 50 national television programs, spoken at more than 1500 campuses and led over 400 Take Back The Night marches and rallies. Her emotionally-charged presentation creates an environment of understanding and helps lay the groundwork for behavioral transformation. Her program provides students with just the right blend of facts, statistics, realism, and thought-provoking challenges around relationships, respect, alcohol, and decision-making. This event is free to all students and sponsored by Tech's Student Government Association, Residential LIfe, The Women's Resource Center, The Dean of Students, Student Affairs and Student Activities. 

Freshman Convocation (Sun. 18 Aug, 2013 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm)

Freshman and transfer students are invited to the official welcoming ceremony at 5 p.m. at Macey Center. Freshman Convocation is a gathering at the beginning of the fall semester. A keynote speaker will join top administrators to kick off the new academic year. Come join us for this fun event. Freshman students are required to attend.

Block Party/Barbecue/Fun on the field (Sun. 18 Aug, 2013 5:30 pm - 10:30 pm)

Before classes begin, enjoy a few hours of music and dancing and free food! You can also let your inner child come out and play on the inflatables that will be set up on the Athletic Field. The Student Activity Board is sponsoring a Block Party and barbecue, starting between 5:30 and 6 p.m. and lasting until about 10 p.m. Sunday . All students are welcome and encouraged to come have fun!

Touch Rugby/ BBQ (Sun. 18 Aug, 2013 6:00 pm)

The NMT Pygmy Rugby Football Club will be teaching the basics of Rugby along with playing (safe) touch rugby. A barbecue will follow at 814 Leroy Place (across from Brown Hall).

Chemistry Department Seminar/Thesis Defense (Wed. 21 Aug, 2013 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm)

Materials Engineering Thesis Defense (Wed. 21 Aug, 2013 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm)

Christian L. Arrington, master's candidate in the Materials Engineering Department, will present his thesis, "Electroforming Nanostructured Bi2Te3 based Thermoelectrics." 2 p.m. in Jones Hall 106.

Bike Repair Wednesday (Wed. 21 Aug, 2013 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm)

Fix your bike! 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays at the Macey Center loading dock.

Coffee House and Open Mic (Wed. 21 Aug, 2013 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm)

Are you itching to perform? Do you have a hidden talent and want to share it with others? The Student Activity Board will sponsor a coffee house and open mic event in the Fire and Ice coffee shop in the Fidel Center. Open mic starts at 7 p.m. and the main act, Rayvon Owen and Company, will start at 8 p.m. This event is free to Tech students. Students will get a ticket for free coffee and one biscotti.

St. Patrick's Newman Center (Wed. 21 Aug, 2013 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm)

The Newman Center at New Mexico Tech is a Catholic organization that serves students seeking to grow in their faith. Meetings include fellowship, discussions, and dinner. Graduate Community Barbecue/Potluck (Thu. 22 Aug, 2013 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm)

The Graduate Community barbecue/potluck will be at 5 p.m. Thursday in Macey Center (second floor gallery and patio). The event is jointly sponsored by the Center for Graduate Studies and the Graduate Student Association. Everyone who is or works with or wants to be a graduate student is invited to come (and bring family) to celebrate everything our graduate students bring to our campus. Please join us. Pulled pork, brisket, hamburgers, hot dogs, and sides will be provided. Bring your favorite dish to share. Please join us in welcoming the new graduate students. We hope to see you at the event. 

ASME/Mechanical Engineering Department Barbecue (Thu. 22 Aug, 2013 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm)

Movie Night on the Athletic Field (Thu. 22 Aug, 2013 8:30 pm - 11:00 pm)

The Student Activities Board and Residential Life Office is sponsoring an outdoor movie night on the Athletic Field. Bring a lawn chair or a blanket and kick back with the "mystery" movie (movie unknown right now) and some popcorn and a drink. Thursday evening at dusk.

Materials Engineering Guest Speaker (Fri. 23 Aug, 2013 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm)

Dr. Bikramjit Basu is a researcher at the Laboratory for Biomaterials, Materials Research Center at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, India. He is the special guest speaker for the Materials Engineering Department. He will present "External Field Stimulation for Enhanced Cell Proliferation and Bactericidal Property on Engineered Biomaterials." 3 p.m. in Jones 106.

Alumni Reception - Farmington (Fri. 23 Aug, 2013 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm)

The New Mexico Tech Alumni Relations Office will host a reception at the St. Clair Winery, 5150 E. Main St. in Farmington. 6 to 8 p.m. All are welcome
