Master's of Science for Teachers Seminar (Mon. 29 Apr, 2013 10:00 am - 12:30 pm)

Sue Martin-Trujillo, graduate student in Master of Science for Teachers, presents her independent study "STEM for Girls: the Effects of an All-Girl Middle School Elective STEM Class on the Perception and Interest of Females in STEM fields." The public is invited. 10 a.m. in Cramer 108.

INBRE/Biology Seminar (Mon. 29 Apr, 2013 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm)

Dr. Terry Lowe, visiting professor of Materials Engineering at Tech, will be the last featured speaker of the semester in the INBRE/Biology seminar. His talk is titled "Nanostructured Metals for Bio-Medical Devices." 4 p.m. at MSEC 195.

All graduate students are encouraged to attend GSA Meetings to discuss concerns.  Free food and drinks will be provided.  The meetings is at 12:30 p.m. in Library 212.

Mechanical Engineering Seminar (Tue. 30 Apr, 2013 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm)

Lt. Col. Richard E. Huffman Jr. will present the Mechanical Engineering Department seminar. He will present "Mission Overview of the 96th Test Group." 2 p.m. in Cramer 124.

Python 01 (Tue. 30 Apr, 2013 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm)

Python Section 1 classes are free every Tuesday from 5:30 to 6:20 p.m. in Speare 116

SGA Meeting (Tue. 30 Apr, 2013 9:00 pm - 10:00 pm)

Bike Club Wrench-A-Thon (Wed. 1 May, 2013 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm)

Students, staff, and community are welcome to bring their bikes for minor repairs. You do the work, but the NMT Bike Club will provide tools, instructions, and minor parts. No charge, but donations are appreciated. 4 to 6 p.m. at the Macey Center loading dock.

St. Patrick's Catholic Newman Center (Wed. 1 May, 2013 7:00 pm)

The Newman Center at New Mexico Tech is a Catholic organization which serves students seeking to grow in their faith. Meetings include fellowship, discussions, and dinner. All are welcome! 7 p.m. at the Newman Center on School of Mines Road.

Technical Communication Program seniors Daniel Griffin, Lysandwr McNary, and Griffin Swartzell will present their thesis research. 3:30 p.m. in Cramer 124.

Python 02 (Thu. 2 May, 2013 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm)

Python 02 classes will be held every Thursday from 4 to 4:50 p.m. in Speare 116. 

Earth Science Seminar (Thu. 2 May, 2013 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm)

Dr. Jennifer Lindline is an associate professor of geology and the Environmental Science Program coordinator at New Mexico Highlands University. She is the speaker for the Earth and Environmental Science Department seminar, presenting "Mid-Cretaceous-Recent Geochemical Evolution of the Crust in the Central Coast Orogen, British Columbia and Southeastern Alaska." 4 p.m. in MSEC 101.

Santa Fe Opera Apprentices on Tour (Thu. 2 May, 2013 7:30 pm)

The Performing Arts Series presents Santa Fe Opera Apprentices on Tour, rising star opera singers perform selections from popular operas, musicals and a one act operetta. Free admission to all. 7:30 p.m. at Macey Center.

 

Swing Dance (Thu. 2 May, 2013 8:00 pm - 10:30 pm)

Weekly Swing Dance held in the SAC hosted by the New Mexico Tech Ballroom Dance Club. Everyone is welcome. Lessons are held before the dance most nights. 8 to 10:30 p.m.

Materials Engineering Seminar (Fri. 3 May, 2013 11:45 am - 12:45 pm)

Dr. Carl E. Cross, PE, will present a Materials Engineering Department seminar. Dr. Cross is a staff scientist with the Metallurgy Group at Los Alamos National Laboratory.  He will present "Grain Refinement of Aluminum Alloy Weld Metal." 11:45 a.m. at Cramer 124

Mechanical Engineering Design Conference (Fri. 3 May, 2013 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm)

The junior and senior Mechanical Engineering students will present the results of their design projects with posters and teaser presentations. Everyone is welcome and invited to attend. 1 to 5 p.m. in the Fidel Center third-floor ballroooms.

Mechanical Engineering Master's Defense (Fri. 3 May, 2013 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm)

Richard Nelson, master's student in Mechanical Engineering Department, will defend his thesis "Cavity Dynamics of a Non-Axisymmetric Hydrophobic Sphere in Water Entry at Low Froude Number." 5 p.m. in Weir Hall 102.

First Saturday Star Party (Sat. 4 May, 2013 6:00 pm)

The Astronomy Club will have a star party after the VLA tours. The event is free and open to the public, so come out and join us at the Etscorn Observatory. The club hosts star parties on the first Saturday of each month starting at dusk.
